MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Three-time defending Conference USA champion Memphis dropped the hammer on Marshall in the second half, using a 27-5 run to bury the Thundering Herd 80-57 Wednesday at FedEx Forum.
Marcus Goode, Marshall's promising 300-pound post player, had surgery Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.

After nabbing a New Year's Eve commitment from wide receiver Aaron Dobson, Marshall isn't necessarily through tapping the talent pipeline from the state champion South Charleston team.
In one of those quirks of nonconference scheduling in college basketball, Marshall travels 2,000 or so miles to play exactly one game.

HUNTINGTON - At halftime of Marshall's 74-60 victory Sunday over Tennessee State, some of the 4,491 fans may have joked that their team dominated the visitors so thoroughly in the first half that they need not show up for the second.
