MORGANTOWN - It was an instance West Virginia's basketball team would probably like to forget, but it also serves as a lesson best to remember.
AS YOU MAY know, I've been critical of Bill Stewart and his staff for their performance this past football season. The way I saw it, the West Virginia team was an A student that brought home a C+.
MORGANTOWN - Say what you will about the virtues of recruiters like Doc Holliday, Chris Beatty and the rest of West Virginia's new football coaching staff, not to mention the strength of having a closer like Bill Stewart (criticize his homespun manner all you like, but isn't that the guy you want talking to parents?).
MORGANTOWN - Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun is a man of many hats.
MORGANTOWN - With the game pretty much hanging in the balance, Jerome Dyson had seen enough in the previous 39-plus minutes to know what Connecticut's best option was for a game-clinching score.
MORGANTOWN - By all rights, West Virginia's basketball team probably should be treading water right now, its collective head barely above the surface.
The West Virginia University hockey team will make its first appearance in front of a Charleston crowd when it takes on border rival Ohio University at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena.
