CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- With the state Capitol dome in the background, Hillary Clinton spoke at the University of Charleston campus at midday today, urging West Virginia voters to elect Anne Barth to Congress.
"She is not on the side of George Bush, Dick Cheney and Republican ideologues who have gotten our country into so much trouble," the former first lady said.
Referring to lavish vacations now being enjoyed by corporate executives whose companies are collapsing financially, Clinton said Barth "spent her summers at church camps and in service projects helping people, not at resorts....
Democrat Anne Barth, running against Rep. Shelley Moore Capito in the 2nd Congressional District, received the support of Hillary Clinton (left) today at the University of Charleston.
"We want to bring troops home from Iraq. Her opponent [Shelly Moore Capito] has voted with President Bush and Vice President Cheney 100 percent of the time to support the war in Iraq.
"She will also protect Social Security from privatization," Clinton added. "Republicans have run out of ideas. We need new leadership of the kind Anne Barth offers."
Barth said, "Today, 80 percent of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction. George Bush and Shelley Moore Capito support the way things are going.
"You can vote for change in this election. My campaign is about change."
Barth also promised to back stronger legislation helping veterans. "They deserve the health care, the benefits and the honor they have earned."
Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., also attended the rally for Barth, offering his vigorous endorsement.

I would think that being lumped in with Bush and Cheney is preferable to being lumped in with Obama and Ayers.

In 2006, Capito voted with Bush 87% of the time and with Bush's rubberstamping Republican-held congress for years.
She voted for the largest cut to education funding in US history, and her years of shafting Veteran's health care is indisputable.

"Details of Shelley Moore Capito's Years of Shameful Disregard for Veterans' Health Care Needs"
After the WV legislature passed a bicameral bill (SCR 58) to stop the corporate buyout and shutdown of union mines just to shaft miners out of their health benefits and pensions, (think Cannelton and Starfire), while on the powerful Republican-run House Rules Committee, Capito never let Rahall and Rockefeller introduce the bill in Congress.
Regarding gas prices, Capito voted against Rahall's "Use It or Lose It" bill, letting oil companies continue to invest BILLIONS more into manipulating their own stock market than in drilling and exploration. Market manipulation is currently DOUBLING gas prices.

West Virginia women are finally making their voices heard nationally;
The momentum in state polling has shifted sharply from McCain to Obama;
Over the next 25 days, Obama will be on the rise while McCain's base shrinks to the old guard and crazies;
The active women voters--our pro Hillary supporters--will ultimately carry the day!
Bravo to Barth, Bryd, Rockefeller and McGraw for putting up the good fight;
Senator Byrd--you are a righteous man in a Bibical sense.
