Charleston Marine killed in Afghanistan, DOD says

A Marine from Charleston was killed in Afghanistan earlier this week, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
In a news release, the DOD said Capt. Garrett T. Lawton, 31, of Charleston, died Monday "while supporting combat operations in Herat province, Afghanistan."
Lawton was assigned to U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, N.C., according to the release.
