Former West Virginia University football coach Don Nehlen underwent triple bypass surgery Tuesday morning in Morgantown, according to a statement released by his son-in-law, Jeff Hostetler.
Dr. Jose Cruzzavala, a WVU surgeon, performed the cardiac surgery. Hostetler, a former WVU and NFL quarterback, said physicians had determined during routine tests that Nehlen needed surgery.
"Recovery is going well. We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers, and we also appreciate everyone respecting our family's privacy during this time," Hostetler said in the statement.
"We are looking forward to a speedy recovery, getting him back on the golf course and rooting for the Mountaineers."
