Southern Skyways will no longer offer summer flights to Orlando out of Charleston's Yeager Airport, Yeager's marketing director said today.
Yeager airport officials were told last week that the airline would be canceling their summer Orlando flights because of high fuel costs, Brian Belcher said.
However, the talk of the financial feasibility of the flight began a month before, he said.
"They told us a month ago, that if fuel continued to rise, they may not be able to do the flight," he said. "And, if they weren't going to make a profit on it, they weren't going to do it."
About 1,200 tickets have been booked, he said. All tickets will be fully refunded, he said.
Southern Skyways' Myrtle Beach flights will continue on Saturdays and Sundays, but will be paired with flights coming from Rockford, Ill., he said.
