Stewart: Entire defense at fault
MORGANTOWN - Friday night after West Virginia's pass defense was shredded for a series of big plays in a 30-19 loss at South Florida, coach Bill Stewart tried to deflect some of the criticism away from sophomore cornerback Keith Tandy, who was beaten by Carlton Mitchell on two of those deep passes.
"[Mitchell] is just better than [Tandy],'' Stewart admitted. "We had to help [Tandy] a little bit.''
And on Sunday, after having a day and a half to study the issue in depth, Stewart's conclusion was the same.

Yeah, yeah, WVU athletics are self-supporting, but only if you don't count the cost of building and maintaining the facilities.
Stew kept saying through the year that Lyons had a great spring. Sure he did...he was playing against Tandy and Hogan!
doesn't grow enough Div I talent to fill one side of the ball. Stew
didn't have those kids ready to play on Friday night. Simple as that.
the 22 Florida kids on the roster had ticket requests for family and
friends that numbered almost 100 per player. When will Stew and Company figure out that the trip to Tampa is NOT a vacation or a fall
break back home to eat Mama's home cooking just before making second
rate players look like Heisman contenders? We have been exposed for
what I feared in pre-season: a mediocre assembly of second rate talent
that will struggle to go 7 and 5. Sad. President Clements needs to
hire a first rate AD and turn him/her loose on the football and MAC
programs. That should be step one. Leave Huggs alone. That program
is in good hands and good shape.
Also, what's up with these Marshall fans on here - don't they have there own place to communicate there views?? GET A LIFE.
This can still be a great year so don't give up on the MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to give Geno a try, then if that don't work out, time to give a new coaching staff a try.
*WV defense is weaker than last year.
*WV offense is weaker than last year (but we knew that in Sept).
*Mullen's playcalling continues to deteriorate.
*Wide receivers can't get open, as evidenced why Jarrett Brown continues to drop back...then run.
*Got outcoached again on offense.
*Secondary is pourous.
I felt at the beginning of the year we must show improvement (9-3 or better). I won't judge until after 12 games, however it looks like we're in trouble.
I think WVU is ok, USF is not likely to have that kind of d-line ever again, Selvie is a senior and that other guy will go to the NFL after this season.
