Loss to Pitt mirrors '07, minus consequences

PITTSBURGH - The plot lines were different and so was the game itself. Suffice it to say, though, that ultimately this Backyard Brawl ended eerily similar to the last one for West Virginia.

It ended with Pat White throwing an impossible pass toward Wes Lyons in the end zone, trying to salvage a game that it was hard to understand how the Mountaineers could have lost to Pittsburgh.

5 MORE YEARS OF BILL STEWART? THE WVU FOOTBALL TEAM WILL BE MEDIOCRE AT BEST...THEN 4 MORE YEARS TO REBUILD THE PROGRAM. THAT IS IF WE DONT HIRE JEFF MULLEN IN AS HEAD COACH. SOUND CRAZY? NO IT REALLY ISNT... BASED UPON PAST EXPERIENCE. THE GLORY DAYS ARE OVER FOR A LONG, LONG TIME TO COME. SO EVERYBODY QUIT "BELLYACHING" AND GET USED TO IT. MOUNTAINEER FOOTBALL AS WE KNOW IT... IS OVER.

Hey, rblyel9420, that blocking back is in Seattle. Replacing him evidently wasn't on RR's list of priorities. P.S. Remember, Schmidt had to sell himself to the Mountaineers. He wasn't recruited. Where would they have been the past few years without him?

In the fall of '06 we moved to Cleveland. First time in over a decade we were close enough to drive to Mgtn. I tried to get tickets for WVU games and was told that the minimum donation for getting a season ticket that year was $1500 + the ticket costs.
After watching the sports car turned into a yugo and then driven into the ditch this year, I'm sorry to say that Gomer just saved me more than a few bucks. So sad a season and administration. Thanks Pat!!
I suspect I'm not the only one that will be holding back its financial support next year. Hey ed, ru listening????

Since the WVU sports administration doesn't care enough about the program to hire a competent head coach with a proven track record, then I don't care enough to be a Mountaineer supporter anymore. WVU never fails to disappoint and this year its been at the top of its game.

PAT WHITE SAID AFTER THE FIESTA BOWL WIN THAT "WVU NEEDS BILL STEWART AS THE HEAD COACH" he supports him, Stew is a great guy. The type of human being you would want your own son to grow into. He is not a major head football coach for a supposed major university! I'll bet anyone that Coach Stewart will be there for as long as he wants to be. If someone can tell me one WVU football coach that has ever been fired I'll kiss your butt. The only time they leave is when "US" the fans run them out of town. i.e. Bobby Bowden, Coach Rod.....The administration knows that we will always buy the season tickets, and support the players, we are loyal fans. WVU is all we have in this state, we all hurt and all bleed old gold and blue...this hurts...However Bill Stewart will be here for as long as he wants to be, because WVU doesn't fire coaches, we just run them out of town!!! Pat White you have been wonderful to watch, Thanks! I will not be watching or be going to the last game or the bowl.

As I now do with the Cincinnati Bengals, it is time to boycott WVU games and merchandise until further notice. Pastilong will make no changes if he's not pressured to do so. As some have said before, how on earth do you expect to grow as a program when you don't even take advantage of the fact that you have Pat White on your team which no defense has ever been able to stop. Anyone with common sense could put together better game plans than this coaching staff. Hell, hire me and I can guarantee I could do a better job and all I have is years and years of Madden and NCAA football experience!

More than just the second straight loss in the Backyard Brawl occurred Friday in Pittsburgh. The balance of power in the Big East now has shifted. Pitt's program has now (shockingly) has overtaken WVU's. And this team will go down in Mountaineer history as the most disappointing, underachieving unit ever, wrestling that mantle away from the '98 and '04 teams respectively. I know I probably speak for most Mountaineer fans everywhere when I say this has been by far the most frustrating season we've ever endured. It's a sad day for the Old Gold and Blue. This isn't how Pat White deserves to go out.

Way2old is way too right! Maybe now Stewart will exit gracefully and let us go find a real football coach.

As with every mountaineer football fan I too am very frustrated. Bill Stewart did get a great recruit at QB, but what good does that do when he can't win football games with the best QB that WVU has right now and probably ever will. We will miss Pat White greatly. What I don't understand is the inconsistencies on offensive play calling. It honestly does not look like the staff watched the film of the Pitt-Cincy game at all. Cincy did pass the ball well, but also threw many short middle screens as well as Pike running the ball on QB draws. What I don't understand is why Pat White ran the ball 20 times against L'Ville and only 12 against Pitt. And why didn't we throw more middle screens? The one we did throw went for 30+ yards to Jock. Oh yeah and Jeff Mullen.... I think everyone has figured out this play. Devine runs in motion pre-snap weak side and counters strong side. We ran that play 10+ times yesterday and it went for nothing 10+ times. What a great offense.

Give Eddie Pastilong his gold watch (he's beyond State Employee retirement age) and emeritus status, remind Coach Stewart of his promise to leave and use the $4M for a Head Coach who knows how to use what he has. I'm proud of the players, just not proud of the Head Coach and whoever was calling the offensive plays this season: Your play-calling is boring, predictable and never took advantage of the known talent that the team possesses. I hope you apologize the players at the end of the season.

This season hss been simply frustrating.
We've beaten no good teams and lost to teams we should have beaten.
My goodness, MAC teams or CUSA teams can do that.

If Stewart doesn't demote Mullen he's going to lose the minority support he currently has.

Whether it's Rodriquez or Stewart, when we don't score 30 points or more we lose. aka Pitt, Colorado, ECU and Cincy.
    signed very very frustrated.

The only good thing about this game is that there is one less game to play in this most disappointing of seasons.
I cannot believe that the administration at WVU could have made more of a mess of the football program. Someone needs to lose their job.
It would be easy to blame the new coaches, but they are what they are. The people who hired them must go.
For Pat White, thank you so much. Let me say that you will be greatly missed by all WVU fans. I feel so bad for your senior year, but it was certainly not your fault. You were betrayed by the administration and their terrible hires.
Looking forward, what hope do we have of becoming a big time program again? Does anyone see another Pat White coming along? Would he want to play at WVU? Why would he?
For all you apologists out there, it is time to wake up and put the pressure on if you really care about WVU football. If we, as supporters of the program, demand change with our words and our wallets, change will come.
