The Charleston Gazette: Showdown
U.S. future at stake

After Republican Gov. Sarah Palin stumbled badly in television interviews, many Americans assumed that she would flop in her vice presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden. Expectations were low. But she was quick and glib Thursday night, repeating well-rehearsed "talking points" and looking vigorous. Republicans who had been worried breathed a sigh of relief after the confrontation.

However, performances in this and other national debates are partly show biz, and don't really change the profound importance of the Nov. 4 election. What's at stake next month is America's future. All the talking in coming days really won't alter the basics.

The Bush-Cheney administration has been a calamity for America. The ruinous Iraq war was started on bogus grounds. Trillion-dollar tax giveaways to the rich caused terrible deficits, sending the national debt into the stratosphere. Failure to police Wall Street money-changers led to the financial collapse now menacing the economy. Extreme reliance on foreign oil hindered development of new energy sources. Pandering to fundamentalists obstructed lifesaving stem cell research. Etc., etc.

    Obama-Biden 08 - A Vote For America, Land that I love!

    I'm surprised by all the union vote that is going the way of Obama. I am in the Carpenters union and I'm voting for McCain. With all the emphasis we put on experience and seniority, I just can't see my vote going to an apprentice with no seniority at all. Especially in light of the current economic crisis we are in and the appalling way this was forced on us by the democratic congress. Democratically controlled committees have been seeing this coming since the end of last year and did nothing.

    Palin is all about short sound bites - that's all she can muster. Any sustained argument will either have her fumbling for words, restating something she's already said, or just probing for insults that appeal to the ignorant, "down home folks" crowd she's so popular with.

    She's totally devoid of substance.

    The Republican party obviously believes that lying straight into the camera while smiling is a commendable quality.

    Being a cold-blooded LIAR makes Palin the PERFECT spokes model for the Reptilican party, all winky and jokey-jokin' as she dodges legitimate, serious questions to deliver her hollow talking points.

    GOOGLE:

    Sarah Palin's 18 debate lies

    It really is something to marvel at, though, like watching a really slick snake oil salesman reel in suckers. But I sure don't want ANOTHER one like that running the country.

    GOOGLE:

    McCain Melanoma

    They STILL haven't released his medical records, although the Navy has been sending McCain a check for FULL DISABILITY for years. "Full disability" means that they've ruled he's UNABLE to work, either full or part-time.

    Even WITHOUT his health records, plug just his age and number of bouts with cancer into standard insurance actuary tables, and the chances are that Ms. Mooselini would end up taking over his Executive branch at some point.

    Well, things went awful quiet here after the right wingers were challenged about McCain's health records!

    They can argue endlessly and witlessly about everything else and then become deathly silent about the most relevant issue in the race!

    As was said earlier, they give new meaning to lame!

    2768 doctors couldn't all be wrong guys!

    Does no one care about Sen. Barack Hussein Obama's health and that he chose an old Biden to run with him?

    Ayers and Obama?

    You guys are not only dirty beyond belief but desperate besides;

    Why don't you have the nerve the address the medical health records issue?

    Lame...lame...lame

    Why is that McCain has voted consistently against veterans' benefits, health care, pay, etc?

    It takes real low wattage to suggest this guy cares a hoot about WV!

    You folks below: Why don't you address McCain's health instead of regurgitating the same old gruel?

    It's incredible that you won't join in the national demand for him to release his medical records!

    It makes you all "sick" in your thinking or too wimpish to look the the issue in the face!

    Imagine mcCai.s incapacity and Palin stepping in

    Egads!

    Yesterday's NY Times had a full page ad where 2768 medical doctors called for McCain to release his medical records;

    He's hiding his true health condition and foisting Palin upon the nation;

    What any incredible risk he's taking with our childrens' future;

    By the way he's uninsurable and it is only Congress's socialized medicine that covers him;

    What duplicity!

    Palin spoke in pre-prepared sound bites?

    Where do you think Joe Biden was in the week before the VP debate? If you are not keeping up on the news, I'll tell you.

    He was huddled with Governor Granholm of MICH. and a gaggle of folks preparing for the interview.

    Related subject: According to the CNN Website, Sarah spoke at the 9.x grade level -- Biden spoke at the 8.x grade level. And, Sarah used bigger words!

    Your newspaper keeps me in touch with my beloved state, but your bias ruins your creditability!

    These are not mis-statements; but outright lies. Gazette; you will never sell this National Democratic party jibberish to the voters of West Virginia. Time that you accepted the truth. In West Virginia, McCain/Palin will overwhelmingly carry the majority of voters. Hillary Clinton stood a chance here, but the chosen one and his sidekick will not.

    Only seasoned hacks like Biden can handle a series of "gotcha!" questions like those posed by Gibson and that perky broad who used to be on the Today Show. They were designed to embarass her; nothing more, nothing less.

    Sarah Palin is the ONLY bright spot in this election season. Electing her moron running mate allows us to plan for 2012.

    Sarah Palin is for real. That is one powerful claim that cannot be staked by bin Barak al Obama and his establishment, inside-the-beltway sidekick.

    The Gasette editors hailed McCain when he voted against his party and GWB. Now, he's Bush's clone. Can't have it both ways.

    Agree with Wake Up, America! We can not afford another four years like the last eight.

    Palin needs to be referring to her notes about taking care of her little one at home or wherever else he may be.

    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

    (1) When asked questions, Palin kept changing the topic, going back to talk about "talking points on her notecards."

    (2) MSNBC pointed out Friday 13 FALSE statements she made!!!

    (3) It scary to think she will be one heart beat away from the oval office. What happens if she would be in the oval office and get a 3:00 a.m. phone call...I HOPE SHE CAN FIND HER NOTECARDS!!!

    (4) Please rewatch the debate and note how many questions she didn't answer!!!

    (5) McCAIN and Palin want to give BIG BUSINESS 300 MILLION TAX CUT TO HELP THE ECONOMY, NOT THE TAXPAYER!!!

    (6) I DO NOT NEED MY V.P. CALLING ME "joe six pack" and "winking at me," not with OVER 4100 DEAD AMERICAN SOLDIERS FROM IRAQ!!!

    (7) While Bin Laden is alive and well - the guy who IS responsible for 911 - we are spending 10 million a month on a war in Iraq against a country that had nothing to do with 911. WE CAN'T LIVE WITH THESE TYPE OF MISTAKES AGAIN!!!
