  •   To the venter who stated that war is the abortion of 18-year-olds, those 18-year-olds who are dying in war are doing so voluntarily. They enlisted. Abortion involves the murder of people who have no choice.

  •   Our arrogant Mayor Jones is doing something right for a change considering metro government, which would be very efficient and better and cheaper.
  •   Compare the gas used by fans on a typical fall weekend for football games to gas "wasted" for one NASCAR race. Maybe we should cancel football too.

The person that said with the new electronic voting you can not write in. That is wrong you touch the empty space under the names listed and a keyboard will come on the screen and you can type in the name of the person you want to vote for. The main problem with the electronic voting machines is the people getting paid to work them. They come to a learning meeting before the eleection and some never show up or talk ,sleep, make a shopping list etc while it is being explained and then on election day they have no idea how to help people. The machines are a big plus ...the only negative is the people not taking the time to learn how to show the people how to use them.

If you think there is no culture around here,I would like to know what you consider culture. When was the last time you were at a Museum or an outdoor drama or on the Hatfield/Mccoy Trail? To see a group of mud covered people with big smiles after a ride and hear them takling about Southern West Virginia being some of God's best work. If every where was like New York, how exciting would it be to go to New York? Have you ever been to reclaimed land like Twisted Gun near Gilbert? Do you know anything about coal mining? My grandpa worked for 40 years in the mines and I never really understood what he did and this last weekend I went to a Museum in Chief Logan State Park and they had an exhibit that simulates a coal mine with tools used by miners that you could see just how hard they worked and how they stayed bent over due to low coal. That coal was used here and even shipped over seas. I could go on and on but they stop you with the limit on words. Please tell me what you consider culture

Metro goverment is the way to go, it would only improve the eastern end of the county. The small town's don't have the money for upkeep without raising taxes and fee's and none of us want that. The services would do nothing but improve. I say go for it!

Listen. This whole Metro nonsense centers on one problem. Charleston's population loss. Who can blame anyone who leaves these days. Much of the city hasn't had significant improvement since the 1970s. Look at a photograph of downtown in 1963, and compare that to what you see today. Our infrastructure is falling apart. Many businesses have packed up and left. We have not invested in infrastructure, people, or education. What keeps young people here? Lack of options. Look at the areas that are growing, Morgantown and the eastern panhandle. Quality jobs, culture, education.

The simple fact is that the top 5 percent of income earners run our county. They've run it all right. Into the ground.

Get a life, you're stressing yourself out way to much. If they ban drinking, what will you complain about next- obesity...you don't want to sit next to someone because they are fat!! I'm not condoning drinking and driving by all means, but seriously ..get over it.

It's good to vent about the horrible judiciary in Charleston, but get it right. There are no right wingers or republicans on the bench in Kanawha county, and they are rare as hens teeth in WV. Your complaints need to be directed at the leftist democrats who have been in power since 1932. Also to the guy remarking negativly about Metro government, your opinion would be more credible if you sounded even minimally literate.

Lets look at Metro 911 Dunbar and St Albans waited years before jouining but later regret going to them. It took away a person who went out and broke there necks to help someone.Go to the Station no one is there. I and a lot of other Vol. Fire Depts Ihave ben told they regret it also for the same reason. When Metro Gov goes to the littel citys then it will try for us unincoprated towns. Folks biger is not better.Mtro Gov is a lose lose ideal.

Sure have been seeing a lot of empty parking lots at these bars, where are ya non smokers. If I were a bar owner, I'd be a little leary of some of my customers. What few are left, they are the ones that are drinking your liquor and then ratting you out. I guess they don't seem to have enough sense to know that you can smell alcohol on their breath and body also.

People seem to react to metro government the same way they do about school consolidation. They fear a loss of personal identity. But sometimes, there are more important things than a football team or a city's name.

Re: Metro Government; People are scared of it. They are afraid of job losses, loosing their home town identities, decreases in service, increases in fees & seemingly by the current comments they have no desire to be under the rule of Mayor Jones. If an exact plan were presented to the public to reassure us that are fears are unfounded, perhaps Metro would receive more support. I understand the reasons behind it, but consolidation usually means someone will be out of a job. Please tell me otherwise.

I have no problem with it, as long as there is a Designated Driver to drive the drunks home. I don't smoke, but just wondering if they were not following the laws/rule, or they didn't have to?

I can happily say that I have not spent a penny in Charleston since D.Jones was put into office, don't live in Char.and would gladly shop there but I don't want to contribute one penny towards Jones'or any of his cronies pockets.Charleston was once a beautiful city that you could walk all over town shopping at the different stores but now you only have the mall.I don't care to shop where a bunch of manner-less teenagers are hanging out looking for someone to pick on.Why does D.Jones want to build another hotel downtown? When is the last time all the hotels were full and people had to look outside the city for a room? Could it be that D.Jones has part ownership in the land where it's suppose to be built? Truely, the people of Char. has figured this out. There has to be more to it than for the betterment of Char. Could this be the reason why the head of the health dep.stepped down?

What happened to all the people that were waiting for the smoking ban so they could go to the track? From the way it was commented in the paper,I thought there would be standing room only. The only thing I seen were more people walking around with beer bottles and mixed drinks in there hands.Plenty of machines were open for play. The down side to this is that all the drinking folks were going to be driving home,so the ban didn't improve the number of people playing, just the number of people dringing and driving. As for the person that said now they could go play bingo w/o having to smell people smoking, you might not smell the smoke but now we have nothing to mask the reeking smell of alcohol coming from peoples bodies or the stink of people that have let their right guard go left.I would rather put up with the smokers, then I have a choice rather or not I care to sit beside them because their habit is out in the open,

By not spending my money in Charleston, I have not missed out on anything. What I do have is more money in my savings account and the pleasure of knowing that I am not supporting the deadbeat 50,000 or so residents of Charleston who wanted me to pay for their city. You should open your eyes and wonder why the populaltion of Charleston keeps going down. I can live without Charleston but Charleston cannot survive without those who live outside of Charleston and do their shopping there. Sorry but I will not be one of those people to support your lifestyle. Find another sucker to pay your bills.
