WVU prez says university should make lives better

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University President James Clements says the school has a responsibility to make the lives of state residents better.
In his first state of the university address, Clements said Monday that WVU is a major force in West Virginia and as a result must make improving the lives of state residents its goal.
Clements says one way to do that is to provide access to health care and to improve the university's health sciences programs and research efforts.
He adds that WVU gives back in many ways - from educating students on campus to reaching out across the state through university run extension service programs.
Clements was hired in March from Maryland's Towson University and started at the end of June.
