DENVER (AP) - Colorado's judicial retention system will get a test next week when voters weigh in on whether to retain three state Supreme Court justices and two of four members of the Court of Appeals.
Matt Arnold, a part-time national guardsman, is running a campaign asking voters to reject most of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals judges up for retention. He says Colorado's system doesn't work because merit commissions have recommended 100 percent retention of those judges and justices since the commissions were formed in 1990.
He says even Fidel Castro and the late Saddam Hussein haven't had that level of support.
Supporters of Colorado's retention system say it has become a national model for other states considering similar systems.
