CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Longtime Kanawha Valley baseball coach Al Estepp has resigned his position at Riverside High School.

Estepp, who won 401 games in 21 seasons, including the last nine at Riverside, turned in his letter of resignation to Principal Paula Potter last week. He went 111-139 with the Warriors, with a 10-17 mark in his final season.

Also a fixture on the local golf scene, Estepp shot an opening-round 81 at the State Amateur on Monday.

Just another example of Riverside plugging in those ex Dupont coaches just because they are good ole boys. Please pick the best candidate for the job. Finally, it looks like football is headed in the right direction with Hensley. Hopefully they can find a equally deserving head baseball coach.

another baseball coach that never capitalized on using correct talent at correct time. reminds me of the HHHS buckner loser. never learned how to win because he got hung up on a few players. could have won 2 or 3 championships. there are a few great baseball coaches in the valley, they aint even close

How accurate are these stats? 19 wins/year seems like a reach considering he only averaged about 12 wins/year at RHS. Anyhoo, good luck, good bye and good riddance. Get us someone in there that will be able to capitalize on the talent that is in place and elevate the program above its current status as whipping boys.
