Prep softball: Cobb, Rabel carry South Charleston to 1-0 win over Parkersburg

Chelsea Cobb struck out 18 and Elizabeth Rabel knocked in the game's only run as South Charleston (2-0) blanked Parkersburg 1-0 in girls softball Friday.

  • SCOTT 5, SHERMAN 4: Krissy Smith pitched a one-hitter and knocked in two runs, and Kohle Maynard homered as Scott (3-0) edged visiting Sherman.
  • WINFIELD 4, WAYNE 3: Ashton Anderson went 2-for-4 as Winfield (2-1) outlasted the Pioneers in 10 innings. Cassi Poff went 2-for-4 for Wayne (0-2).
  • HUNTINGTON 5, HURRICANE 0: Kayla Stinson amassed 10 strikeouts and gave up only one hit as the Highlanders blanked the visiting Redskins (1-1). Kiki Chappelle went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs for Huntington (2-0), and Samantha Spurlock and Tressa Riley each went 2-for-3.
  • CLAY WINS TWO: Alysia Hively, Kelli Cole and Chelsea Welch each had two hits in both games of a doubleheader, leading host Clay County to a 12-0, 8-3 sweep of Gilmer County. In the second game, Sierra Carver went 3-for-4 for the Panthers (2-0). Gilmer had a total of five hits in the two games.
  • ROANE WINS PAIR: Ashli Knotts worked a total of six innings, allowing just one hit and fanning 12 to lead host Roane County to a 15-0, 19-0 doubleheader sweep of Webster County. Each game lasted three innings. Michele Carpenter (4-for-5, double, three RBIs) and Knotts (4-for-5, triple, 3 RBIs) led the hitting onslaught for the Raiders in the two games.
