Soccer wrap-up: More to come from Irish?
Advertiser

Now that the state tournament is over, it's never too soon to look ahead to next year.

Charleston Catholic could be in the midst of putting together a Class AA-A dynasty. The boys and girls teams captured state titles this past weekend and should be well stocked for several more championship runs.

The Irish boys, which won their first state title, lose nine players to graduation but have plenty of talent returning.

Tommy Trupo, who was the leading scorer with 27 goals, along with starting keeper Tanner Jameson, who posted 14 shutouts, and several bench players who saw significant playing time this season will seek a repeat.

The Irish girls, who won their second straight state championship, only lose three defensive starters to graduation.

Emily Blake, who paced the team with 30 goals, Amanda Johns (22), Rachel Silverman (18) and Victoria Thomas (14), along with keeper Diane Bronikowski, will be going after a three-peat.

Hurricane, which fell to No. 1 University 1-0 in its first AAA girls state championship game appearance, will take a substantial hit.

The Redskins will say goodbye to Becca Logan, who booted a team-best 29 goals, Skye Smith, who was second with 17 goals and was the top distributor, and Abby Barber, a defender who verbally committed to Marshall.

George Washington, which lost 1-0 to University in the AAA girls semifinals, will see the departure of seven seniors, including several all-state caliber defenders. The Patriots, however, will have Lucky Lucente, who netted a team-high 19 goals, and Cris Eddy (16) returning on offense.
