Roundup: UC men, women post shutout victories

The University of Charleston men's soccer team held visiting Alderson-Broaddus without a shot as the Golden Eagles picked up a 2-0 win Wednesday night at Schoenbaum Stadium.

Jules Gabbiadini and Conor Branson each registered a goal for UC (2-1) while Lewis Osborne and Augusto MacIel each had an assist.

  • UC WOMEN WIN: Lydia Murray broke away in the 87th minute to score the game's only goal as the University of Charleston defeated Ashland 1-0. Erica Lemmert got the assist and Jennifer Poppe recorded the shutout in goal.

  • GW 5, BLAZER 0: Sarah Bodnar tallied two goals as George Washington defeated host Paul Blazer 5-0 in girls high school soccer Tuesday in Ashland, Ky.
  • Hattie Davis, Sarah Miller and Taylor Ellis all added a goal apiece for the Patriots (7-1) and goalie Olivia Miller recorded her sixth shutout of the season.

    Paul Blazer fell to 4-5-1.

  • ST. ALBANS 2, RIPLEY 2: Jack Wiles and Nate Beck both tallied a goal as host St. Albans (4-2-1) played Ripley to a 2-2 draw. Joseph Greeley-Fay scored both goals for Ripley (3-3-1).
  • UC golfers win at Urbana Invitational

    The University of Charleston golf team won the Urbana University Dye Gold Invitational Wednesday in Urbana, Ohio.

    The Golden Eagles were led by medalist Thibaut Carmignano, who won the event by one stroke over Bluefields' Tyler Browning.

    Charleston shot a two-day total of 612 to outlast Virginia-Wise by 15 strokes. Jamin Smith finished five strokes behind Carmignano in third, while UC's Harry Howell rounded out the top five for the Golden Eagles with 154 strokes.
