Prep roundup: Point rallies past Hoover 7-6

Point Pleasant scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to propel the Big Blacks to a 7-6 high school baseball win over Herbert Hoover Monday in Falling Rock.

Austin Toler belted a two-run home run for Point Pleasant (16-9) while Evan Potter had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Tristan Fields had two hits with a double and RBI for the Huskies (21-2).

  • NITRO 5, ST. ALBANS 1: Ethan Clark went 2 for 3 as Nitro downed host St. Albans in the Mountain State Athletic Conference fifth-place game. Jacob Bradley added two hits for the Wildcats (14-10). Clark Bryant and Austin Harless both went 1 for 3 for the Red Dragons (17-9).
  • SC 10, GW 7: South Charleston erupted for five runs in the sixth as the Black Eagles secured a road win over George Washington. Cole Lanier went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs for SC while Antonio Brown, Austin Santrock and Jonathan Pauley added two hits apiece. Jeff Wong went 2 for 4 with a home run and drove home three runs for the Patriots.
  • WINFIELD 5, PRINCETON 2: Brandon Wright went 2 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBIs as host Winfield won the MSAC seventh-place game over Princeton. Brian Bosley contributed two hits for the Generals (11-15). Ian Southcott went 2 for 2 for the Tigers.
  •   SISSONVILLE 8, BUFFALO 3: Nathan Walker went 2 for 3 as Sissonville earned a road win over Buffalo. Jacob Fisher, Josh Landis and Andy Minsker also contributed two hits each for the Indians. Aaron Lewis had a double and RBI for the Bison.
  • ST. JOE 9, CROSS LANES 4: Anthony Rabel went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Mike Mayes had two hits, including a double, to lift St. Joseph to a win at Cross Lanes Christian. For Cross Lanes, Chad Williams went 2 for 2 with an RBI.
  • CLAY 9, SHERMAN 0: Zach Horrocks scattered four hits and struck out four as Clay County shut out host Sherman. Chris Cole went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs for the Panthers (16-9) while Cooper Osborne produced three hits. John Hunter went 2 for 4 for the Tide (7-17).
  • FEDERAL HOCKING 1, WAHAMA 4: Wes Harrison tripled to lead Wahama (13-8) past visiting Federal Hocking (Ohio). Terrence Mayle went 2 for 3 for Federal, including a double.

  • CATHOLIC SWEEPS MEADOW BRIDGE: Talia Corbett threw a no-hitter in Charleston Catholic's 13-0 win against visiting Meadow Bridge and Ally Persily held the Wildcats to one run on two hits in an 11-1 win in the second game of the Irish's doubleheader sweep.
  • Darian Vines and Brianna Ross each went 3 for 3 in the first win, while Ross added a grand slam in the second game for Catholic (17-9).

  • SC 6, LOGAN 0: Alli Burdette gave up one hit and struck out 11 as South Charleston earned a shutout over visiting Logan. Meredith Cain went 2 for 3 for the Black Eagles (18-9) while Amanda McDonald had a hit and two RBIs. Taylor Napier had the lone hit for Logan.
  • BUFFALO SWEEPS PIRATES: Ali Burdette fired a one-hitter to help lift Buffalo to a 9-1 win before Chelsey Parkins held the Pirates to just one run on four hits in the Bison's 12-1 three-inning win to complete the doubleheader sweep.
  • Parkins had two hits and Burdette had a triple in the first game, while Kayla Reynolds went 2 for 3 with five RBIs in the second game for Buffalo (27-4).

  • HOOVER 21, CLAY 0: Ashleigh Taylor went 3 for 3 with a grand slam as Herbert Hoover picked up a Class AA Region 4 Section win over visiting Clay County. Makayla Craze and Caroline Thornburg had three hits apiece for the Huskies (21-3). Victoria Dorsey had the lone hit for Clay County.
  • SISSONVILLE 11, POINT 0: Bekah Baldwin allowed just one hit and struck out nine as Sissonville earned a five-inning mercy-rule road win. Katelyn Linville went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for the Indians while Alexee Haynes added two hits, including a home run, and drove home four runs. Hannah Wooten had the only hit for the Big Blacks.
