Prep roundup: Poca hurlers combine for perfect game in sweep of Tolsia

Four Poca pitchers combined to throw a perfect game in the nightcap Tuesday as the Dots earned a doubleheader sweep of visiting Tolsia 20-1, 19-0 in high school baseball.

In the second game, Matt Chandler, Brett Watts, Cam Cottrill and Dante' Barnett teamed up for six strikeouts and set down 15 straight Rebels batters. Brenden Iezzi drove in three runs with two hits, the same as Evan McClanahan and Chandler.

In the opener, Lucas Marshall fired a four-hitter and Noah Frampton (3 for 4, triple, two RBIs) led a 17-hit attack for the Dots (16-6).

  • CATHOLIC 8, POINT 3: Connor Golden went 3 for 5 with five RBIs as Charleston Catholic won at home. Rocco Wilcox and Thad Jameson also recorded two hits each for the Fighting Irish (13-8). Jacob Gardner went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Big Blacks and Evan Potter had two hits, including a double.
  • HOOVER 14, RIPLEY 0: Cody Bowen allowed only two hits as Herbert Hoover shut out visiting Ripley in a five-inning mercy-rule contest. Bowen helped himself at the plate, going 1 for 3 with three RBIs for the Huskies (19-1) while Corey Bird, Shaun Dotson and Hunter White added two hits apiece. Chris Jordan and Johnny Stepp had one hit each for the Vikings.
  • GW 10, SISSONVILLE 0: Connor Moffatt scattered three hits as George Washington blanked Sissonville for a six-inning mercy-rule home win. Clayton Anderson went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for the Patriots (14-9) while Grant Wooten and Austin Griffith each had two hits. Josh Landis and Austin Casto had one hit apiece for the Indians (7-17).
  • CAPITAL 9, LINCOLN COUNTY 1: Anthony Gavin went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs as Capital cruised to a home win. Jacob Williams added three hits for the Cougars (11-13) while Kaleb Kinder and Seth Roadcap posted two hits apiece. Aaron Taylor went 2 for 2 for Lincoln County.
  • SC 13, HUNTINGTON 4: South Charleston erupted for five runs in the first inning as the Black Eagles secured a home victory. Jonathan Pauley and Jerod Jobst each went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for SC. Stephen Holland had three hits and drove home two runs for the Highlanders.
  • SHERMAN 12, VAN 2: Blake Brewer went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Aaron Lowe had a single, double and drove in four runs for Sherman (7-13), which scored nine first-inning runs. Winning pitcher John Hunter carried a shutout into the fifth, when the mercy rule was imposed. Van's Brandon Elswick went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
  • SCOTT 9, LOGAN 2: Forrest Spurlock went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs as Scott picked up a road win. Cody Brown recorded a single and two doubles for the Skyhawks while Devin Bayer and Dylyn Brown added two hits each. Zach Hanlon smacked a pinch-hit triple for Logan (13-5).
  • SHELBY VALLEY 13, TUG VALLEY 4: Evan Tackett went 3 for 5 with an RBI as Shelby Valley (Ky.) earned a road win. David Runyon had one hit and drove in a pair of runs for Tug Valley.
  • WAHAMA 2, TRIMBLE 1: Dakota Sisk belted a triple as Wahama edged host Trimble (Ohio). Garrett Miller added a double for the White Falcons (11-5). Bruce Losey went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI for Trimble (9-5).
  • Monday's games

  • SCOTT 15, SISSONVILLE 9: Alex Miller launched a three-run homer and winning pitcher Cody Brown (2 for 3) drove in a pair of runs to lead the host Skyhawks (12-10). For the Indians (7-16), Zach Null was 2 for 3 and Josh Landis belted a three-run homer.
  • ST. JOSEPH 8, TUG VALLEY 6: Michael Mayes went 2 for 4 as St. Joseph downed visiting Tug Valley. David Runyon went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Panthers while Tyler Lucas added two hits and drove home a run.
  • Softball

  • MIDLAND 5, RIPLEY 1: Cabell Midland scored three runs on five Ripley errors as the second-seeded Knights beat third-seeded Ripley in the Mountain State Athletic Conference tournament semifinals at Hurricane High School.
  • Midland (23-4) will play in the championship game at about 7:30 tonight against Hurricane.

    Midland got two hits from Makayla Waugh and doubles from Savannah Eplin and Morgan Kelley. For Ripley, Dusti Fisher had a double.

    Ripley will play in the consolation game at 5:30 tonight against South Charleston.

  • VALLEY 10, M. BRIDGE 0: Kailey Cooper fired a one-hitter and had two doubles in Valley's win at Meadow Bridge. Also for the Greyhounds (14-5), Taylor Carver went 3 for 3 with three doubles and three RBIs while Jenna Allen went 2 for 3.
  • BUFFALO 3, SHERMAN 0: Ali Burdette had two hits, an RBI and allowed just two hits in seven innings in Buffalo's win at Sherman. Chelsey Parkins added a double and an RBI in the win for the Bison (20-4).
  • CATHOLIC SWEEPS CLC: Charleston Catholic scored a total of 29 runs in a pair of three-inning mercy-rule wins as the Fighting Irish swept host Cross Lanes Christian 13-0 and 16-0.
  • Ally Persily went a combined 4 for 7 with six RBIs for Catholic (14-9) while Brianna Ross contributed six hits and drove home two runs. Talia Corbett threw a no-hitter in game one while striking out eight and Persily gave up only three hits and no runs in game two.

  • RIVERSIDE SWEEPS: Sara Winter earned victories in both games and late clutch hits from two players carried host Riverside to a 3-2, 3-2 doubleheader sweep of Nitro.
  • In the opener, Felicia Burton's RBI hit scored Kassady Schmitt with the tie-breaking run in the fifth. In the nightcap, Destini Diegert's single drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth for the Warriors (17-12). Amber Hughes and Melissa Belcher each had a two-hit game for the Wildcats.

  • ROANE SWEEPS: Casey Lassiter fired a six-hitter and a two-hitter and fanned a total of 19 to lead host Roane County to an 11-1, 3-1 doubleheader sweep of Wirt County (10-15).
  • In the opener, Kasey Blosser, Cassidy Taylor and Micky Rhodes each had two hits for the Raiders (19-2). In the second game, Taylor went 4 for 4 with a double and Miranda Hall and Beth Hylbert donated two hits apiece.
