Prep roundup: Hurricane's Adams shuts out SC 2-0

Conner Adams fired a two-hit shutout Saturday as Hurricane earned a 2-0 prep baseball win at South Charleston.

Adams struck out eight, walked two and only surrendered two singles for the Redskins (4-1). Tyson Edwards doubled and drove in a run for Hurricane and Trey Dawson went 2 for 5 and Tate Brock doubled.

Trevor Sansom and John Cline each singled for South Charleston (2-1). SC pitchers Jonathan Pauley and Travis Howard allowed just six hits.

  • CATHOLIC 19, POINT PLEASANT 11: Nelson McKown had four hits and four RBIs and Rocco Wilcox had three hits and four RBIs in Charleston Catholic's win at Point Pleasant. Connor Golden also had two RBIs for the Irish (3-1). For the Big Blacks (1-3), Evan Potter went 4 for 5 with three RBIs.
  • GW 11, OAK HILL 0: Garrett Vogelbach went 2 for 2 with a grand slam and five RBIs as George Washington beat visiting Oak Hill in five innings. Connor Moffatt added a double and three RBIs for the Patriots (4-0) in the win. For Oak Hill (0-2), Daniel Pritt had a double.
  • GW 12, SCOTT 11: Host George Washington scored seven runs in the final two innings and earned a win over Scott in a game resumed from March 16. Jeff Wong doubled, homered and drove in four runs for the Patriots (5-0) while John Thomas went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles. Forrest Spurlock doubled, homered and drove in three runs for Scott.
  • POCA SWEEPS: Noah Frampton singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Poca earned a 9-8 win over Greenbrier West in game one of a doubleheader played in Winfield. Frampton finished the game with a pair of hits and two RBIs. In game two, Frampton went 2 for 3 with a triple for the Dots (3-0), who won 5-3. Adam Tygrett went 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Cavaliers (0-2).
  • LOGAN 4, ST. ALBANS 0: Pitchers Zach Minnick and Chase Preston combined to allow just one hit as Logan beat visiting St. Albans. Red Dragons catcher Josh Burkes had his team's only hit, a two-out single in the fourth. For the Wildcats (2-0), Troy Burgess went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
  • CHAPMANVILLE 14, VAN 1: Tray Dalton and Chase Roberts combined on a five-inning no-hitter and Brock Dalton and Brent Clay each ripped a pair of hits for the host Tigers (3-0). The Bulldogs (0-2) committed six errors.
  • RIVERSIDE 5, SHADY 1: Tyler Hall gave up one run on four hits while striking out nine as Riverside won at home. Brandon Hancock went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs for the Warriors (4-1) while Cameron Morris contributed a double and RBI. Travis Talchesko hit a double for Shady Spring (0-1).

  • NICHOLAS 2, CLAY 1: Wil Mayes and Brandon Hunter of Nicholas County (1-0) combined on a four-hitter to win a pitchers duel against host Clay County's tandem of Alex Burkhamer and Dalton Holcomb, who teamed up for a three-hitter. Holcomb went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Panthers (3-1).
  • LINCOLN COUNTY 5, SHERMAN 2: Grant Bates had two hits, including a homer and drove in four runs to lead the visiting Panthers (2-1) to victory. Matt Huffman's sacrifice fly brought in the go-ahead run in the seventh. John Hunter was 2 for 3 for the Tide.

  •   HOOVER 2, WAYNE 1: Kayla Sheets rapped a two-out run-scoring single in the top of the seventh to snap a 1-all tie for the visiting Huskies against Class AA defending state champion Wayne. Sheets, which finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs, drove in Hoover's first run on a two-out single in the second. Payton Fetty banged out a pair of doubles, including a two-out RBI double in the fourth. Allison Rager allowed one unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts. Rowe gave up one earned run on six hits while fanning seven.
  • CATHOLIC SWEEPS: Ally Persily fired a five-inning shutout and went 2 for 3 and Brianna Ross was 3 for 3 with a triple as Charleston Catholic (2-0) blanked host Lewis County 8-0 to cap a doubleheader sweep. In the opener, seven different Irish players had two hits apiece in a 16-8 victory. Both hits for Darian Vines were doubles.
  • SCOTT 4, LOGAN 0: Jennifer Miller pitched a shutout, scattering eight hits, and Chasity Ball's RBI single keyed a three-run third inning for the host Skyhawks (3-1). Aaron Ward had two hits for the Wildcats (2-2).
  • SHERMAN 15, RIVERSIDE 3: Mackenzie Smith had three RBIs on two hits and pitcher Whitney Laws got the win as visiting Sherman beat Fayetteville. Catcher Hali Jarrell added two RBIs on two hits.
  • SHERMAN 4, RIVERSIDE 3: For the Tide, Bailey Harless hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Sherman. Riverside's Cassady Schmidt went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
  • PARKERSBURG 7, WINFIELD 6: A Winfield error in the bottom of the ninth inning allowed the winning run to score as Parkersburg edged visiting Winfield. Brittany Allison went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Big Reds while Mallory Goots added a pair of hits and drove home three runs. Natalie Miskofsky and Brenna Ferguson had two hits apiece for the Generals (3-4).
  • RIVERSIDE 12, FAYETTEVILLE 0: Sarah Winter pitched a two-hitter as Riverside shut out Fayetteville in a three-inning mercy-rule road win. Winter also produced at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two triples and three RBIs for the Warriors (5-3) while Harley Justice and Destini Diegert added two hits apiece. Kayla Workman and Cassidy Bayes had the hits for Fayetteville.
  • SA SWEEPS: Madi Marshall went a combined 6 for 6 with two doubles, a triple and her first career home run as St. Albans swept a doubleheader over visiting Woodrow Wilson by scores of 6-0 and 11-1. In game one, Haili McCown and Whitney Jones had two hits apiece for the Red Dragons (5-0) while Ali Haynes struck out 10 batters. Karigen Spurlock went 2 for 3 for the Flying Eagles. In the four-inning nightcap, Haynes and Jones each posted two hits.
