Prep basketball roundup: Wheeling Central girls trounce Catholic

Wheeling Central's Colleen McCormick outscored visiting Charleston Catholic by herself Saturday afternoon, tallying 27 points in the Maroon Knights' 64-26 victory.

Regan Blaha and Emily Bucon added 10 points apiece for Central (7-1).

The Irish (2-4), who were tied at 15-all heading into the second quarter and trailed just 34-24 at the half, got eight points from Anna Whelan. Catholic scored only two points in the second half.

Friday's game

  • HUNTINGTON 77, RIPLEY 39: Huntington jumped out to a 40-18 halftime lead en route to a home win.
  • Kiana Evans poured in 28 points for the Highlanders, while Dazha Congleton chipped in 19. Sarah Williams had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Vikings.

    Boys basketball

  • LOGAN 51, ST. ALBANS 37: C.J. Williams had 13 points and Worm Street added a double-double (12 points 13 rebounds) as the Wildcats won at the GW Classic.
  • A.J. Reynolds scored 10 points for Logan (2-3). Nathan McNeil had a team-high nine points for the Red Dragons (1-3).

  • GW 66, CENTENNIAL 56: Senior guard Luke Eddy scored 25 points and had eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals as the Patriots knocked off visiting Centennial (Ohio) at the George Washington Classic.
  • Dominik King added 17 points while Austin Breeden and Cameron Hoston each finished with 10 points for the Patriots (3-2). Boo Osborne led Centennial with 14 points.

  • PARK. SOUTH 75, PARKERSBURG 45: Wes Mitchem scored 23 points and Doug Dennis added 14 as Parkersburg South (3-1) secured a road win. Dru Aldridge and Trevor Britton had 13 points apiece for Parkersburg (1-4).
  • BUFFALO 85, ST. JOE 58: Laythen Good had 27 points and Levi Jordan added 22 as Buffalo topped visiting St. Joseph.
  • Dylan Rich chipped in with 14 points for the Bison (5-0), who pulled away in the second half after trailing 33-32 at halftime.

    Hunter Pratt led the Irish with 16 points. Michael Mays (12) and Anthony Rabel (10) also scored in double figures for St. Joe.

  • PARK. CATHOLIC 71, RAVENS-WOOD 35: Jake Ullman poured in 29 points as Parkersburg Catholic (4-1) cruised to a victory over visiting Ravenswood. For the Red Devils (1-2), Dalton Gandee and Isaac Crow each netted 10 points.
  • PT. PLEASANT 56, CABELL MIDLAND 52: Dillon McCarty scored 18 points as Point Pleasant picked up its first win.
  • Wade Martin and Alex Sommerville each scored nine points for the Big Blacks (1-4). For Cabell Midland (2-3), Dustin Scarberry scored 24 points.

    Friday's game

  • MAGNOLIA 86, LOGAN 60: Mark Winters had 34 points to pace the unbeaten Blue Eagles (3-0) past the Wildcats (1-3) in a first-round game of the George Washington Holiday Tournament. For Logan, Zach Minnick scored 17 points.
