Roundup: Herd goalkeeper Withrow receives All-Region honor

A day after being invited to the Major League Soccer player combine, Marshall University goalkeeper Daniel Withrow has been named to the 2012 NCAA Division 1 All-Midwest Region First Team. He is the only goalkeeper among the 11 on the list.

Withrow started all 17 games for the Thundering Herd this season, recording 77 saves.

  • UC SOCCER: The University of Charleston's Elyse Surbaugh and Holly Bigg were named to the NCAA Division II Atlantic All-Region squad.

    Surbaugh, the 2012 West Virginia Conference Player of the Year, was named to the first-team after scoring six goals and tallying five assists. Bigg, a defender, was named to the third-team after scoring three goals and accounting for one assist this season as the Golden Eagles posted a 9-9-3 record and advanced to the WVC championship game.

  • WVU SWIMMING: West Virginia University junior Richard Pokorny has been named the Big 12 Men's Diver of the Week for his performances at the recent Miami Invitational. The East Concord, N.Y., native placed fifth on both the 1-meter board and the 3-meter board.
