Roundup: Sissonville, Herbert Hoover boys pace All-Cardinal Conference soccer team

Six players from Sissonville and five from Herbert Hoover earned places on the All-Cardinal Conference first team in boys soccer.

Anthony Ribehart, Sam Gary, Josh Rawson, Hunter White, Zack Smith and Andy Minsker received accolades for the Indians, while Jacob Weese, Andrew Mercer, Troy Silber, Brett Strickland and Jesse Weese were tabbed from the Huskies.

  • WVU SPORTS: Former West Virginia men's soccer defender Eric Schoenle has been named a Senior CLASS Award second-team All-American, as well as a TopDrawerSoccer.com third-team All-American.

    Schoenle had 14 goals, five assists, 33 points and seven game-winning goals during his four-year career.

  • The West Virginia baseball program will be holding a Holiday Instructional Camp Dec. 27-28 at the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility next to the Puskar Center in Morgantown. The camp is for youth baseball players ages 7-12. A second camp, limited to baseball players ages 13-18, will be held Dec. 29-30. Each camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.   • MU SPORTS: Marshall outside hitter Laura Der has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Midwest Region honorable mention team.

    Der led the Thundering Herd team in kills (460), kills per set (4.34), total attempts (1,377), service aces (37) and points (521.0) and was third in digs (321). Her season total in attempts ranks second on the school's career list and her season total in kills broke the top 10.

  • Nine Marshall softball players were tabbed as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athletes.
  • Emileigh Cooper, Morgan Cottrell, Jessica Ferrick, Rebecca Gamby, Alysia Hively, Jessica Hughes, Brianna Miluk, Samantha Spurlock and Andi Williamson were honored for achieving a grade-point average of 3.50 or better during the 2011-12 academic year. The nine honorees are the most for MU since 2004-05.
