Roundup: Power front office wins South Atlantic League honors

The West Virginia Power was selected as a recipient of the Excellence in Marketing Award and assistant general manager Kristin Call was named the female executive of the year by the South Atlantic League.

The Excellence in Marketing Award is presented to the team as recognition for outstanding promotions during the 2012 season. West Virginia's "Redneck Night'' on May 26 has been chosen as one of the top six finalists for the Golden Bobblehead Award for the best promotion in minor league baseball.

Call, a West Virginia State graduate, has been with the Power since 2006, when she began as an intern. She was promoted to assistant general manager during the 2011 season.

  • SENIOR GOLF: Steve Fox of Huntington shot a 3-under-par 69 to claim the Senior Division title during the West Virginia Senior Series stop at the par-72 Canaan Valley Resort course in Davis.

    Vienna's Scott Bibbee finished one stroke behind Fox while Spencer's Rick Moore carded a 76 in the Senior Division, which is for players ages 50-59.

    Martinsburg's Jim Carpenter clubbed a 2-over 74 to win the Silver Division (ages 60-69) and Morgantown's Jack Forbes took top honors in the Gold Division (70-79) at even par.

     The Senior Series will play at the Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Mountain today with the next stop at Sugarwood Golf Club in Lavalette on Sept. 18.

  • WVU SOCCER: The West Virginia University men's team fell to No. 22 in the Soccer America Top 25 poll this week. The Mountaineers (2-2-0) lost consecutive 1-0 games to No. 1 North Carolina and No. 15 Wake Forest last week.

  •  UC SOCCER:The University of Charleston women's team lost to Davis & Elkins 4-0 Wednesday. Sarah Fyock scored three goals for Senators (3-0) with the fourth coming from Taylor Morton.

    Goalkeeper Ashley Winklespecht made nine saves against UC (0-3).
