Prep baseball: Hoover knocks off Magnolia

Tristan Fields went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI to help Herbert Hoover knock off Magnolia 11-5 Saturday in high school baseball at Sissonville.

Fields also picked up the win after striking out eight in seven innings. Hunter White, Austin Thomas and Zach Mullins each knocked in two runs for the Class AA No. 3 Huskies (14-3).

Tanner Hanna had three RBIs for Magnolia (7-6).

  • MAGNOLIA 15, SISSONVILLE 5: The visiting Blue Eagles plated seven runs in the top of the fifth to break open a close game.
  • Bentley Knight went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs for Madonna, who only led 6-5 before the uprising in the fifth. J.R. Stricklin legged out three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for the Indians.

  • LOGAN 15, SCOTT 4: Zach Minnick ripped a pair of hits and drove in a run and Justin Oney doubled and had two RBIs to lift visiting Logan past Scott.
  • Alex Mareske earned the pitching victory for the Wildcats (9-3) with relief help from Oney. The Skyhawks (4-10) received two hits each from Cody Blevins, Devin Bayer and Colton Hammond.

  • CHAS. CATHOLIC 8, WHEELING CENTRAL 3: Connor Golden went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs as Charleston Catholic downed Wheeling Central in the W.Va. Catholic school tournament in Parkersburg.
  • Nelson McKown added four hits for the Fighting Irish (14-4), while Rocco Wilcox contributed three hits. Nick Namann doubled for the Maroon Knights.

  • HURRICANE 10, GW 8: Riley Metz went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer for Hurricane in the Ed Carter Memorial Tournament. Taylor Brock added a two-run home run for the Redskins (16-3).
  • Regan Patton went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs for George Washington.

  • WAHAMA SPLITS: Wahama split a doubleheader with Class A No. 7 Williamstown, winning the first game 11-1 in five innings and losing the nightcap 8-7.
  • Tyler Nutter went a combined 4-for-7 for the visiting White Falcons, including a home run in the first game. Tyler Roush added four hits for Wahama (9-9) on the night.

    Dakota Watson contributed three hits over both games including a pair of doubles for Yellowjackets (12-4), while Josh DeBolt went 2-for-4 with a double in the second game.

  • TUG VALLEY 11, TEAYS VALLEY 1: Josh Spry and Trevin Horn each had two hits as Tug Valley downed Teays Valley Christian at home. Alex Moss went 1-for-3 with a triple for Teays Valley.
