Local colleges: UC men cruise past Methodist

Charleston shot a scorching 59 percent from the field and forced 21 turnovers as the Golden Eagles took a 100-70 men's basketball win over Methodist Monday night at Eddie King Gym.

Bahaadar Russell scored 22 points to lead all scorers for UC (12-7). Ronald Kinney added 18 points for Charleston while James Eversley and John White scored 17 each and Jonathan Liggins 10.

Poca native Tyler Sigman led Methodist (2-19) with 16 points. Mark Jernigan added 11 points. Sigman's brother Brian Sigman also played for Methodist, as did former Ravenswood player Bruce Patterson.

The Golden Eagles will play host to West Virginia Wesleyan at 8 p.m. Thursday.

  • STATE MEN WIN: The West Virginia State hit 16-of-36 3-point goals and forced 23 turnovers as the Yellow Jackets steamrolled Salem International 107-76.

    Josh "Cookie" Miller led the visiting Yellow Jackets (17-3 overall, 13-2 WVC) with 24 points and eight assists. Bo King added 22 points for State, followed by Jason Emerson with 18, Will Collins with 17 and Fred Harris with 10. Darren Jones recorded 13 assists to go with seven points.

    Kendall Allison had 22 points and 13 rebounds to led Salem (1-19, 1-13) while Demetrick Walker added 17 points and Ludwig Brooks 10.
