The Thundering Herd (9-2) turned in perhaps its most complete performance of the season in a 99-70 victory over Troy on Dec. 12 at Cam Henderson Center.
That included a near-flawless first half in which the Herd didn't commit a turnover, held a plus-11 rebounding margin and scored 56 points. Six players scored at least nine points for the Herd, led by Tyler Wilkerson with 19 and Damier Pitts with 16.
Troy slumped to 41 percent shooting from the floor and connected on just 6-of-18 from beyond the 3-point line. Brandon Hazzard led the Trojans with 21 points.
Marshall followed up its first victory over Troy with convincing home wins over Brescia (105-54) and High Point (109-76) before being routed by the Tar Heels (98-61). The Trojans (6-5) have split a pair of games since first facing the Herd, losing to Houston (93-85) and defeating New Orleans (78-76).
Hazzard continues to lead the Trojans in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. Richard Delk (13.5), Michael Vogler (12.3) and Yamene Coleman (10.2) also average double-figures. Hazzard and Delk have combined to sink 50 3-pointers, while Coleman is the team's top rebounder, pulling down 7.5 boards per game.
Wilkerson paces the balanced Herd offense with 13.4 points per game. Shaquille Johnson (12.4) and Hassan Whiteside (11.7) are the only other players averaging double-figures, but nine are averaging at least 5.0 points.
Whiteside remains among the nation's leaders in blocked shots with 56, and has swatted at least three shots in eight straight games.
Following today's game, the Herd returns home to face St. Bonaventure of the Atlantic-10 Saturday at 2 p.m. Marshall opens play in Conference USA Jan. 5 at home against Southern Mississippi.
