Roundup: UC men reach WVC soccer title game
Golden Eagles will meet D&E for tourney crown

Mladen Petrovic and Robert Vincent netted goals as the University of Charleston downed West Virginia Wesleyan 2-0 at Schoenbaum Stadium Thursday in the West Virginia Conference men's soccer semifinals.

With the victory, the WVC regular season-champion Golden Eagles earned a spot in the title match against Davis & Elkins. The No. 18 nationally ranked Golden Eagles (16-3-0, WVC 11-0-0) face D&E at 3 p.m. Saturday at Schoenbaum.

Second-seeded D&E (13-5-1) used a 5-4 advantage in the shootout to eliminate Wheeling Jesuit 1-0 in the other semifinal. Senators keeper Timothy O'Toole saved a try by the Cardinals' Nik Balzer.

  • TECH SOCCER: The WVU Tech women clinched a fourth-place Mid-South Conference finish with a 2-0 victory over Rio Grande. The win ensures that the Golden Bears will play host to Campbellsville in the first round of the MSC playoffs.

  • WVU BASKETBALL: The West Virginia men's basketball team will play its first exhibition game at 1 p.m. Sunday against Mountain State at the WVU Coliseum. Reserved tickets are priced at $16, while WVU students will be admitted free with a valid ID.

  • The WVU women's basketball team plays an exhibition contest against West Virginia Conference member Glenville State at 6 p.m. Sunday at the WVU Coliseum. Admission is free.

  • OTHER WVU SPORTS: West Virginia football players Eric Jobe, Josh Lider and Reed Williams were named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSida Academic All-District 2 first team. All three advance to the national ballot for second-round voting for inclusion on the All-America team.

  • The swimming and diving teams will start Big East competition this weekend playing host to Cincinnati at 5 p.m. today and Louisville at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the WVU Natatorium.
  • The nationally-ranked No. 24 women's soccer team resumes Big East Championship play with a semifinal match at 5 p.m. today against No. 10 Marquette in Storrs, Conn.
  • The volleyball team is set to play host to Villanova at 7 p.m. today, followed by its final road match at Youngstown State at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

  • MU SPORTS: Marshall plays its final two home volleyball matches of the season, with the first being against Alabama-Birmingham at 7 tonight.

    The home finale will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Memphis. MU (19-7, C-USA 7-5) has already secured a spot in the eight-team Conference USA tournament and is now playing for its playoff seed.
