Roundup: WVU invited to Women's NIT

The West Virginia University women's basketball team was invited Tuesday to participate in the Preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament Nov. 13-22.

The Mountaineers will play host to Towson in the first round of the 16-team tournament. The field features 11 schools that played in the postseason last spring.

  • WORKMAN TO WESLEYAN: Stephen Workman, a second baseman and right fielder for Hurricane, has signed to play baseball at West Virginia Wesleyan.

    Workman hit five homers and drove in 37 runs for the Redskins (27-8), who lost to Nitro in the Class AAA regional finals. He is playing American Legion baseball this summer for South Charleston Post 94.

  • W.VA. POWER: Tony Sanchez, Pittsburgh's first pick in the 2009 MLB draft, made his West Virginia Power debut Tuesday.

    To make room on the roster, third baseman Jeremy Farrell has been placed on the disabled list with flu-like symptoms.
