The Mountain Cats overcame a 37-35 halftime deficit Thursday to overwhelm the No. 5 Pioneers (20-9), building an 80-64 advantage with 2:28 left in the game and surviving a foul-plagued final minute.
UPJ's Marcu Tillis hit a free throw with 10:12 left in the game to give the Mountain Cats the lead for good. UPJ, in fact, scored 15 answered points after the tie to take a 72-57 lead. After the Tullis free throw, Matt Ionadi scored back-to-back baskets, Patrick Grubbs hit two free throws, Quinton Davis contributed a layup and two foul shots, Grubbs sank two more foul shots and Davis dunked.
Tullis led the Mountain Cats with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Davis added 20, and Grubbs and Ionadi chipped in with 13 each. Pitt Johnstown's William Sharp had nine assists, giving him 498 for his career, to set the school's all-time record.
Jamal Holden scored 30 points on 11-of-16 shooting to lead Glenville (21-5), which won 20 games for the first time as an NCAA Division II member. Anthony Kimble added 19, Tryvan Leech had 14 and Chase Groves 10.
