Five Charleston baseball figures, including former Cincinnati Reds pitcher and broadcaster Joe Nuxhall, make up this season's class of inductees in the West Virginia Power Wall of Fame.

Pitching for the Senators of the Class A Central League, Nuxhall spent 1949 and 1950 in Charleston - the first two seasons of Watt Powell Park's existence.

In 1944, Nuxhall appeared in a Reds game at the age of 15, making him the youngest player ever to reach the majors.

As a Reds broadcaster, he made frequent trips to Charleston to promote the team.

Other inductees:

  • Dave Augustine, a Follansbee native who spent parts of seven seasons playing for the Charleston Charlies of the Class AAA International League and now lives in St. Albans;
  • Don Cook, the current Appalachian Power Park public-address announcer who served in the same capacity at Watt Powell Park and is a former play-by-play voice of the Charleston Wheelers;
  • John Dickensheets, a longtime play-by-play and public-address announcer and assistant general manager for the Charlies and a pioneer of local sports-talk radio;
  • Mike Paterno, a businessman who organized a group of local investors who purchased the South Atlantic League franchise from previous owner Dennis Bastien after the 1993 season.
  • A plaque of each man has been added to the Wall of Fame behind the Appalachian Power Park press box.
