In Season

Big game

  • Antlerless white-tailed deer may be hunted with firearms through Tuesday in selected counties.
  • White-tailed deer may be hunted with archery equipment through Tuesday. The bag limit is up to two deer a day. See DNR regulations for bag limits.
  • Black bears may be hunted with firearms through Tuesday. The bag limit is up to two bears a season.
  • Wild boars may be hunted with archery equipment through Tuesday. The bag limit is one boar a season.
  • Small game

  • Squirrels may be hunted through Jan. 31. The bag limit is six squirrels a day.
  • Cottontail rabbits may be hunted through Feb. 28. The bag limit is five rabbits a day.
  • Snowshoe hares may be hunted through Feb. 28. The bag limit is two hares a day.
  • Raccoons may be hunted through Feb. 28. The bag limit is four raccoons a day.
  • Red or gray foxes may be hunted through Feb. 28. There is no bag limit.
  • Bobcats may be hunted through Feb. 28. The bag limit is three bobcats a season.
  • Coyotes may be hunted year-round. There is no bag limit.
  • Upland birds

  • Ruffed grouse may be hunted through Feb. 28. The bag limit is four grouse a day.
  • Ring-necked pheasants may be hunted through Jan. 4. The bag limit is two male pheasants a day.
  • Bobwhite quail may be hunted through Jan. 4. The bag limit is three quail a day.
  • Waterfowl

  • Ducks may be hunted through Jan. 31. The bag limit is six ducks a day.
  • Canada geese may be hunted through Jan. 31. The bag limit is five geese a day.
  • Calendar

    Tuesday

  • West Virginia's "family" antlerless-deer season will close, one-half hour after sunrise.
  • West Virginia's archery seasons for deer and wild boar will close, one-half hour after sunset.
  • West Virginia's firearm season for black bears will close, one-half hour after sunset.
  • Wednesday

  • New Year's Day! Don't forget to purchase a new hunting or fishing license!
  • Thursday

  • West Virginia's winter trout stockings will begin in selected waters throughout the state.
  • Jan. 4

  • The third segment of West Virginia's dove-hunting season will end at sunset.
  • West Virginia's hunting seasons for bobwhite quail and ring-necked pheasants will end, one-half hour after sunset.
