When all the junior officers and NCOs come back and run for office later in their lives, they will be a positive influence in American politics. They have been helping to build a practical democracy in a hostile place and will have the skills to repair the damage done here from so much corporate corruption of the political process.
There is not one voter or patron who cares about how much the dog track paid for the new vault or surveillance system. We the people voted for a resort and casino with table games and 1,000 new jobs. Didn't the track know that they had to upgrade? Of course not. Not one shovel of dirt has been overturned for construction. Let's start the recall vote now.
Why waste your vote for a third-party candidate? It is the same as not voting. Just throwing the vote away. The candidate never wins and it takes votes away from a more qualified candidate. If it wasn't for Ross Perot, Bill Clinton would have never seen the inside of the White House.
We need a beauty salon in Marmet. There are several places where it would be nice to have a beauty shop.
Why is Gov. Manchin suggesting year-round schools? That is an idea whose time passed 20 years ago. Why are we once again behind the curve? School districts in other states have already shown that the only thing that goes up with year-round schools is the maintenance costs on buildings and the cost of utilities.
Corporate boardrooms all across America are filled with greedy Republicans. If you live from paycheck to paycheck, be sure to vote Republican.
To the person that said McCain will win West Virginia, McCain will probably lose this election by 10 to 20 percent and will not do very good in West Virginia. People are sick of the Bush administration and certainly don't want more of the same. McCain should realize Bush's low rating will reflect on him, as he embraced the failed Bush policies and continues to make poor decisions.
Do Christians really believe sending money to obscenely rich televangelists will help them get into heaven? How else to explain otherwise rational people throwing their money away.
Republican Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska indicted by the Justice Department. Another crooked Republican. It is a common occurrence and not even worthy of a headline. I can't wait to see how many Bush pardons before he leaves office. I bet he even pardons himself and Cheney.
To the person who wanted to know how to keep birds out of ferns, try putting a light bulb in the center of the fern.
The only possible way John McCain can win West Virginia in November is if the people still think guns, gays and abortion is what politics is all about.
Can someone tell me about gluttony and where to find it in the Bible?
How many wakeup calls will the state of California need, especially the L.A. area, before they wake up? They have earthquakes, mudslides and fires, and still this left state is still leaning to the left and eventually it may lean so far it falls off the U.S. map.
Apparently CSX doesn't have a problem with the high cost of fuel. On the Upper Coal River they let trains sit idle for days at a time with the locomotives running. I wonder if they leave their corporate vehicles running in the parking lot while they are at work.
To the caller who called in about sleep apnea, you don't know what you are talking about. I am certainly not overweight and I have it and I have to use the machine.
To the idiot who says Iran is not trigger-happy, of course they are not trigger-happy because they haven't built up enough nuclear weapons to take out anybody yet. They are building them, and if they don't think Iran is going to go after them, they are fools. How many countries has Israel invaded?
To stop birds from building nests in your hanging ferns, spray bug spray around the fern. I spray my windows and the birds don't come back. They don't like it.
I totally concur with the venter about so-called Christians touting their Christianity. I see that you see through Obama, too.
I think it is high time the American people stood up and impeached President Bush. He is driving this country into the ground. He doesn't know what he is doing and I would like to see impeachment started on him.
To the caller wanting to know how to keep birds out of hanging ferns, buy a small rubber lifelike-looking toy snake and put it in your fern. You will not have any birds in it.
Why do people go around tearing other people's mailboxes down? Do they have a mental problem?
To the lady who said she'd vote for Bush again because he has kept us safe and Obama isn't intelligent enough to be president, I give you George W. Bush, who was president when over 3,000 Americans were killed on 9/11. I hardly call that keeping us safe. And as for intelligence, Bush's IQ is apparently about three points above a turnip and he is president.
Putnam County is considering purchasing Meadowland Golf Course on Route 35 near Winfield. I think they should do this. All the schools use this golf course for free. If it closes it will be a tremendous loss to the community.
If the federal government owns Kanawha Boulevard, would they please keep Charleston from shutting it down every week? It is such a hindrance to everyone.
So the House formally apologized for slavery and Jim Crow. I would like to when they are going to apologize to the Indians for the ridiculous acts they did to them. Let's give it back to the Indians before the Chinese take it away from us.
The comments of Patrick White about West Virginia's baseball team show you that the good old double standard for fear of being accused as a racist is well in play. If all West Virginia baseball players were black and a white player would have complained about it, he would have been deemed a racist. You can't have it both ways.
One of the things that sets Charleston apart from other cities and makes it unique is the open view the river and the beautiful drives that flank it, Kanawha Boulevard and MacCorkle Avenue. There is plenty of buildable land in the city. Leave the Boulevard alone. Keep Charleston unique. Say no to destroying the beauty of our city for the greed of a few.
You only had to look at the Kroger ad in Wednesday's paper to see how bad ethanol is hurting us. They say two ears of corn for $1. Two years ago you got a dozen ears of corn for $1.

"There [is] no reason people cannot get out of these jobs. They can train and get educated."
Yet Charleston is a prime example of a place people CANNOT get jobs. College graduates leave because there are no opportunities here for them. They'll end up working at Chic-Fil-A, which has only an age limit of 16 as their sign-on requirement. The minimum wage jobs, once for high school kids looking for summer work, have become filled with out-of-work college students and college grads. Do you want them to get a Ph.D. before they can get out? Its a little more difficult than you realize.

Blame the demorats for that minimum wage increase. There are no reason people cannot get out of these jobs. They can train and get educated. It is something to think about while you were sleeping/partying through high school.
