Shame on Dr. Hamrick and his sister for initiating all these lawsuits against CAMC. Now he has a lot of money to fund his insurance. He should be happy now.
President Bush and John McCain want off-shore drilling of oil. Any oil produced in the U.S. is sold on the international market. How can that help our energy crisis?
To all you people who think any person who is liberal is the scum of the earth, I would like to remind you that Jesus Christ was the ultimate liberal.
I may be a fool for buying bottled water, but I know the not-so-good condition of the water lines in my neighborhood.
Could the person stating that marriages should remain under the church's watchful eyes please inform us who is responsible for providing the legal marriage license? Is it the church or the state? If it were the church, I'm quite certain that marriage would truly be respected as a bond for life and divorce would not be allowed, right?
Many more of us are choosing to use motorcycles for our daily commute. Please respect our space and do not tailgate. We are doing our part to fight high fuel costs by trying to conserve.
It is amazing to me how many idiots will sit and complain about the weatherman not being right, yet turn around on the very next sentence and say that only God controls the weather when trying to deny the fact that global warming exists.
Take a nice long look at your property tax statement that is coming this week. Over half of my amount goes to the school system. My youngest child is 29.
The University of Charleston riverfront condos block the view of the state Capitol, are overpriced and just plain ugly.
Another terrorist attack on the good people of Charleston by John Amos and the mysterious blue haze. When will the DEP start doing their job?
The St. Albans Police Department did the right thing in hiring the officer. He had an accident in which he was sorry and lost a good job. Everyone deserves a second chance and he is no exception. He is human and deserves to be treated so. Best of luck, officer.
I am a handicapped person and I can't understand why there isn't one parking meter on Capital Street from the Boulevard all the way down to Lee Street for handicapped people. Instead they put 15-minute meters in. They need to put some handicapped meters in. I hope this can be accomplished.
I don't get it. President Bush has been the subject of ever so many cartoons that have portrayed him in an unfavorable light. Yet, as soon as a cartoon of Obama appeared on the cover of the New Yorker, the editor was called on to defend his decision to publish it. Someone must be afraid that we uneducated, old, white West Virginians can't recognize satire.
To the venter who said the North-South football game should be played in August. That would never work because if you were an All-Star football player and had a college scholarship you would be playing college football in August. What they really need to bring to Charleston is arena football. It is the only summertime football that would work in Charleston.
The overlay area code system that the state of West Virginia is going to put in place is a joke. I would hate to be a new business in West Virginia and have one of those new area codes. It just isn't fair. Split the state like every other state does.
I, for one, like Obama and am going to vote for him, but comparing Michelle to Jackie Kennedy is a laugh.
No wonder the suicide rate for the young males in West Virginia is so high. There are no opportunities here. Seven dollars an hour is not enough money to build a life on. We need a government that is not corrupt and actually makes opportunities for our youth.
The U.S. government poured military aid into Afghanistan to help the Taliban defeat the Russians. The Reds were driven out of the country with our aid and now we are fighting the Taliban, our former ally. Pentagon decisions make no sense.
Nancy Pelosi and the other Democrats lied to us in the last election. They said, "put us in office and we'll make big changes. We will make changes in the price of gasoline, utilities and food prices." Yes, they sure have made changes. Gasoline and utilities are no longer affordable, and neither is food.

If the prosecutors offer a plea deal to Desmond Clark after he slaughtered his girlfriend like a dog at Taco Bell, then every one of them should be fired. There should be no plea offer whatsoever. He should get the maximum penalty for murder, which in West Virginia is life without mercy.
Which is more important: having the latest scores in the newspaper or making sure it is delivered to people before they leave for work in the morning? It should be a no-brainer.
When I saw the picture in Tuesday's paper of the children riding bicycles I wondered where in the world were the boys' helmets. I thought it was a law that children have to wear helmets when they ride.
The people who live in the area would prefer Wal-Mart to a racetrack. How many people that live nearby would benefit from a racetrack? Wal-Mart is a much better choice for the elderly and others who live close.
I see where the state is going to hire 30 people to monitor sex offenders in the state. If you are not a current state trooper or retired West Virginian state trooper you can forget about applying for those jobs. Those will be taken by current and ex-troopers so common people can just forget about those jobs.
Hooray for the judge that reduced the Hamrick verdict from $25 million to $10 million. I think that $10 million is way too much. That case is only worth $100,000. Keep fighting CAMC.
It's troubling to see in the paper that teen pregnancy is on the rise in West Virginia. There are many causes for this, but I think the media deserves a large part of the blame for using terms like "single mom" and other similar words to make it sound like this is acceptable behavior. These girls need to learn that this is not acceptable. I would be in favor in giving them no public assistance at all. They need to be made to feel ashamed for their acts.
What has happened to the town of Smithers? The grass is all grown up and the streets are filthy.
To anyone who is considering voting for John McCain: If you vote for McCain you are just voting for another George Bush.
I saw where Danny Jones donated money to the girl that was murdered. Why isn't Gov. Manchin donating? I'm sure if it had been someone from South Hills he would have made a large donation.
Republicans in the state Legislature tried to kill a bill that requires political slush funds to tell us where their money comes from. We don't need those kinds of people in the Legislature.
Democrats and Congress are wasting time and not doing constructive work. To want to impeach Bush at this point, well it is a little late for that. He will be out of office in six months. Instead, start working for America and do the job that you are being paid to do.
There aren't any handicapped parking meters between the Boulevard and Capitol Street. I suggest they remove the two 15-minute meters that are on the corner of Capitol and Virginia Street across from the Security Building and replace them with two-hour handicapped meters.
So President Bush sits on his hands for the first seven and half years and now he lifts the ban on oil drilling, just so he can blame the Democrats.
I would like to know why some people only got a portion of their stimulus checks and others got the full amount. It is just another lie from the Bush administration.
Can someone explain to me how being shot down and spending the Vietnam War in a prison camp makes John McCain somehow fit to be commander-in-chief of the U.S. military?
I would like to thank the trustworthy employee at Kroger in Ripley who found my purse, which was left open in the parking lot with a $20 bill lying on top. Thanks so much. This happened several months ago and I am ashamed that I didn't thank him or her publicly before now.
It looks like the Charleston airport is at it again, removing the mountaintops just like the coal companies.
Churches seem to have forgotten that they are supposed to administer aid and help to those in the community. Instead they are building multi-million dollar churches for themselves. I see where another church recently bought Rock Lake Pool. If they could buy that, think of what they could do for the down and out.

Conscientious and the venter who thinks all aid needs cut off. You both are right. But what really needs to be done -- a parent receiving any aide should not become pregnant again until they are off ALL programs. This would probably help the welfare systems a great deal, but to cut off all help for a parent that is still in school or being educated in some way to better themselves is completely absurd.

I partially agree with Darth on education. We do need to get together and vote new into the board and clean everyone out thats in there. We need to make it a PUBLIC school again, not about the board or the teachers. I am not happy with Kanawha County (Pt. Harmony and AJ)either. Too many children are being left behind, just passing them on. This has been happening for years and still is continuing today. But I also agree with WVEducator about the Levies. Alot of children would suffer and I know that firsthand. I have always volunteered at the school and I do see where the levies are going. There are some good schools in other areas that do deserve what they get and more. I just wish I could afford to move from the Cross Lanes area.

Is there a way where I can take my taxes and have them applied any where but Kanawha County Schools when I homeschool my children?

Darth - - you are so right. I went to Nitro Elem, Nitro Jr. and Nitro High. When the AJ kids joined us a Nitro, most were very under educated and I even happen to marry one that started out at Pt Harmony ending at Nitro that should have never left Pt Harmony. Reading and spelling on a 3rd grade level is absolutely rediculous. Now as a parent in the Pt Harmony district, I found they still have the same teaching habits. I can't seem to see how they are considered a school of excellence (unless it is because the principal is good friends with the superintendent). I have given up fighting with Kanawha County and decided to homeschool my chidren, atleast they will be educated.
