Good news: Bill improves Medicare
Advertiser

Last week, fearmongering House Republican leader John Boehner tried to scare American seniors with claims that the House of Representatives' health reform bill contains "massive cuts" in Medicare that "would have a negative impact on seniors' benefits and choices."

In a visit to Charleston earlier this week, Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., parroted him.

The exact opposite is true, according to AARP and the truth-seeking Web site, Factcheck.org. "To characterize these as 'massive cuts' ... is simply rubbish," Factcheck says.

Thursday, AARP, the American Medical Association and the American Cancer Society endorsed the House bill, which leaves every Medicare recipient in better position. AARP declared:

"The changes actually aim to strengthen Medicare and improve beneficiaries' care and access to physicians. The proposals even add new benefits; for example, making preventative measures, such as mammograms and colonoscopies, free to beneficiaries and substantially improving prescription drug coverage."

Under the House bill, seniors would have no co-payment for preventative services like mammograms. They would be free of the infamous "doughnut hole" in Medicare Part D which forces many of them to pay 100 percent of prescription drug costs when they reach a certain cost level.

The bill also expands the government's authority to clamp down on waste and fraud and reward quality and efficiency. The Congressional Budget Office says the bill saves hundreds of billions in reimbursements to doctors and hospitals over 10 years. It adds a productivity factor to the reimbursement formula, as recommended by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.

One American dies every 12 minutes due to not having health insurance. One American dies every six minutes receiving improper medical care. ¡Hombre!
Forget the insurance...stay away from hospitals! You get better odds!

The insurance lobby spends $1.4 million of your premiums DAILY to preserve their right to refuse coverage once you get sick, and Republicans are raking it in

Meanwhile, one American dies every 12 minutes due to lack of access to proper health care here

GOP Senators Chuck Grassley, Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn all tried terrifying seniors about death panels, yet they all voted for end-of-life counseling (aka "Death Panels") in 2003

Ironically, on his radio program, the GOP's leader Rush Limbaugh even can be heard promoting ads urging his listeners to obtain living wills and end-of-life counseling

Although they decry "socialism", not one of the members of congress has ever repudiated their own government-backed health care. Those who ranted about bureaucrats wanting to "pull the plug on granny" just to scare seniors should have their socialist health care plans pulled until they start coming up with solutions instead of just spreading lies

When Republicans propose to slow the growth of agencies from 10% to 7% per year, the Gazette screams that they are slashing benefits to the elderly and children. When Democrats talk about reducing Medicare by $500 millions, they are called innovative and thrifty.

Go figure....
