COWEN, W.Va. -- One man is dead and another injured after a fistfight turned into a stabbing Thursday evening in Webster County.
Emanuel Martin Jr., 18, from Harrison Township, Mich., allegedly stabbed both Jason Lawson, 34, of Camden, and Lorenza Carte, 31, of Webster Springs, during a physical altercation at the Y-Mart in Cowen Thursday, according to the West Virginia State Police.
At some point during the altercation, the suspect was hit in the head, and police are unsure if that caused the fight to escalate, according to State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous.
Lawson died as a result of his stab wounds, and Carte was airlifted to CAMC General Hospital in Charleston. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
Martin Jr. was arrested and charged with felony murder and malicious assault. He was transported to Central Regional Jail.
