MADISON - The theft of a piece of mine equipment led to the arrests of three Boone County men on theft and drug charges.
Deputies investigating the theft of a $50,000 piece of mine equipment from a mine in Cazy on March 16 caught up with the alleged thieves on Tuesday, according to Boone County Sheriff Rodney Miller.
Miller said deputies found the equipment at a house near Danville. While they were there, Phillip Richmond Elswick Jr., 40, of Wharton, Jason Albert Adkins, 31, of Madison and Jack Anthony Webb, 33, formerly of Wharton but now living in Charleston, drove up in a Chevrolet pickup.
Miller said deputies found a methamphetamine lab in the back of Elswick's truck and more drugs in the house.
Elswick was charged with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit a felony and transfer of stolen property. Adkins is charged with attempting to operate a clandestine drug lab, while Webb is charged with attempting to operate a clandestine drug lab, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit a felony and transfer of stolen property.
All three men were being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on Wednesday.
