CHELYAN, W.Va. -- Four people from Detroit were arrested in Chelyan on Wednesday after they allegedly threw drugs out of their car while being pursued by sheriff's deputies.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation on the W.Va. Turnpike around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release.

The driver, Dorian Jamar Haslam, 23, of Detroit, refused to stop the car for deputies and instead took the Chelyan exit. Passengers in the vehicle started to throw bagged items from the car, the release states.

Deputies finally managed to stop Haslam near the Admiral Lopez Bridge. They found crack cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash in the vehicle. They also found about 80 OxyContin pills in the area where the bags had been thrown from the car during the short pursuit.

Haslam, 23, was charged with possession with the intent to deliver OxyContin, driving on a suspended driver's license and fleeing from an officer while in a vehicle.

Alonzo Curtis White, 36, was charged with possession with the intent to deliver OxyContin and littering. Charlie Ray Taylor, 19, and Diamond Danielle Dunton, 21, were charged with conspiracy to distribute OxyContin.

All four were arrested and sent to the South Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bond.

Anyone besides me notice a trend here? Why do the state police let anyone with a Detroit license plate in the state? Does Charleston have to become the economically desolate wasteland dominated by the drug trash that Huntington has become?
