WINFIELD, W.Va. -- The trial for a man charged with murdering a woman in 2001 was delayed Thursday in Putnam Circuit Court after defense attorneys requested more time to sort through evidence.
David Matthew Little, 34, of Nitro is charged with first-degree murder in the 2001 death of Yvonne Suzette Thomas, 41.
The trial, which was set for Feb. 27 in front of Putnam Circuit Judge James Holliday, is now scheduled for June 25, a court reporter said.
In April 2002, Thomas' body was found at Island Creek Road near Tornado. Her body had apparently been carried or dragged across a field to the edge of a wooded area, where it was left in the creek bed, State Police said at the time.
Thomas left her father's Cedar Grove residence in July 2001 and walked across the street to have a drink at the End Zone Bar. Hours later, she was seen leaving Shrewsbury's Twin Hills restaurant with a man.
That was as far as her family and friends could track her until state troopers confirmed -- through DNA -- her body was in the creek bed.
A State Police spokesman in Huntington said in 2002 that Thomas died from a gunshot wound to her head.
Little, 34, is incarcerated in the Martinsburg Correctional Center for conspiracy and attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory. His projected release date is next year, according to the state Division of Corrections website.
