ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- No charges are expected to be filed in a Friday car-pedestrian collision in Jefferson that claimed the life of a 53-year-old Jackson County man, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said it has not yet been determined whether Tony R. Skeens of Kenna had been attempting to cross or was walking along MacCorkle Avenue when he was struck by a sport-utility vehicle driven by Randall Patrick of St. Albans.

Patrick stopped his vehicle immediately after hearing a noise and saw a pedestrian on the ground, according to Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Sean Crosier. Skeens was pronounced dead shortly after the 5:30 p.m. incident, which occurred in front of Tomahawk's Club.

Skeens' death remains under investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department's Accident Reconstruction Unit.

How many more people have to die in this area before someone cleans up the place. Cheap motels, meth labs, strip clubs, and bars comprise the majority of businesses along this section of Route 60. If you can't regulate the kinds of business establishments, then at least upgrade the highway lighting. More law enforcement presence would be helpful, too. I am anxious every time I drive through this section, especially when it is dusk/dark. .....and I don't talk on the cell phone when I drive.
