CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Sissonville woman was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly pushing her son-in-law into the path of an oncoming car.

Deputy J.A. Ferrell went to a home at 3936 Walker Drive in Sissonville just after midnight to find Richard Shamblin, 22, lying on the ground with leg injuries, according to Lt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Shamblin told Ferrell his mother-in-law, Kimberly Ann Daugherty, 48, of Sissonville, had shoved him into the path of a Jeep Cherokee driven by Daugherty's sister, 50-year-old Rita F. Taylor, Crosier said.

Crosier said witnesses told Ferrell that Daugherty had been arguing over the telephone with her daughter, Crystal Shamblin, earlier in the evening. Despite being told not to, Daugherty went to the Shamblin home and got into an argument with Crystal Shamblin that turned physical, Crosier said.

At some point in the argument, Daugherty allegedly pushed Richard Shamblin into the path of the Jeep, which ran him over. Daugherty then allegedly jumped into the vehicle and fled.

Deputies were given a description of the white Jeep Cherokee, which had a license plate on the front that said "#1 Grandma." Crosier said deputies located the Jeep a short time later.

Daugherty was arrested and charged with attempted murder. She was in South Central Regional Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Richard Shamblin was taken to CAMC General Hospital.
