Putnam man gets probation in diesel theft

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A Putnam County man has been sentenced to two years' probation for buying diesel fuel stolen from a National Guard facility for a fraction of its market price.

Sixty-year-old Charles Raymond Franklin of Red House was sentenced Monday in federal court in Huntington for receiving stolen government property.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says Franklin received more than $14,000 worth of diesel fuel from a National Guard contract employee. The employee, Matthew Brock, previously was sentenced to four years' probation for stealing the fuel.

The Navy's Special Warfare Command contracts with the National Guard to store and maintain equipment in Red House, including diesel fuel.
