Putnam Health Board offers flu shot clinics

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- The Putnam County Board of Health is offering flu shot clinics on a walk-in basis. Shots will be given from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the board's offices, 3282 Winfield Road, Winfield.

The following community clinics also have been scheduled:

  • Thursday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Hurricane High School, 3350 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane
  • Monday, 3 to 5 p.m., George Washington Middle School, W.Va. 62, Roosevelt Boulevard, Eleanor
  • The four shots will protect against four flu strains. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone older than 6 months get the flu vaccine. Elderly people, young children, pregnant women and those with certain health risks are at increased risk for serious complications and death from seasonal flu illness.

    The Health Department can bill a number of insurance providers and the private-pay cost is $38. For information, call 304-757-2541.
