Jay's chief of staff stepping down in December

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., says his longtime chief of staff will be leaving in December.

Rockefeller on Monday announced the upcoming departure of Kerry A. Ates. She will become vice president and chief of staff at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in January.

Rockefeller said deputy staff director James Reid will take Ates' place on his team.

Rockefeller announced in January that he would not seek a sixth term in 2014.
