W.Va. sends Medicaid enrollment letters to 118,000

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Nearly 118,000 families are getting word that they may automatically qualify for Medicaid coverage.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources mailed out auto-enrollment letters this week to recipients of the state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The letters also are going to parents of children already covered by Medicaid.

DHHR Secretary Karen Bowling says the letter asks people if they want to automatically enroll.

Responses are due at local DHHR offices by Sept. 27.

Applicants will be notified of eligibility by late December.

Bowling says it's a hassle-free and logical way to help people her agency is already serving.
