Man pleads not guilty in crash that killed deputy

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A repeat drunken driver doing time for an Interstate 79 crash that killed a West Virginia sheriff's deputy last year has pleaded not guilty to additional charges.

Jerod Green, 36, was in Monongalia County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Green was indicted earlier this month on charges of third- or subsequent-offense drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing an officer, fleeing in a vehicle while under the influence, and fleeing an officer with reckless indifference.

Judge Russell Clawges scheduled trial for late October.

Green also has been sued in civil court for the death of Sgt. Todd May, who chased him into southwestern Pennsylvania.

Green was convicted of third-degree murder there and is serving 25 to 50 years in prison. He'll be returned to Pennsylvania when the proceedings in Morgantown end.
