Police investigate Boone school bus fire

By Staff reports

HEWETT, W.Va. -- Police are investigating after a fire destroyed a parked school bus in Boone County early Thursday.

The bus caught fire at about 2 a.m. while parked at the bus driver's house along Hewett Creek Road in Hewett, Boone County Superintendent John Hudson said.

The bus, valued at $90,000, is a total loss. No one was injured.

Boone County sheriff's deputies and state fire marshals are investigating. Hudson said it appears someone vandalized the bus before the fire.

The bus had been used for multiple schools in the county. Other buses are being used to transport students until a replacement can be found, Hudson said.
