Sissonville man indicted on murder charge

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Sissonville man accused of murder for a September shooting death is among 107 indictments handed up by a Kanawha County grand jury on Friday.

Dale Thomas Newhouse, 55, was indicted on a murder charge in connection with the Sept. 27, 2012, shooting of James "Jamie" Bryan Shaffer, of Sissonville Drive.

According to Kanawha County sheriff's deputies, Shaffer, 41, called 911 at about 1 a.m. Sept. 27 to report that Newhouse had shot him. Shaffer told an emergency dispatcher that Newhouse was standing over him with a 9 mm handgun.

Newhouse was standing outside waiting for deputies when they arrived on the scene, while Shaffer was inside with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, deputies said. Shaffer was taken to CAMC General Hospital and later died of his wounds.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. It means only that a grand jury has found enough evidence to warrant a criminal trial.
