FUTURE EVENTS

  • Town of Marmet will feature The Sharpshooters Band at the dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Marmet Recreation Center. Dancers and non-dancers are welcome. The concession stand will be open and will be selling hot dogs, barbecues and more.  
  • Candlelight memorial service for Kerry Edward Duncan will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Keen Cemetery, Vine Road in Newton. The service honors the one-year anniversary of the death of Duncan, who was killed in a work-site accident. The vigil is organized by Duncan's family.
  • Felman Production will commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Graham Ferroalloys Plant with community event from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday on the plant property, Graham Station Road, Letart. The day is free to the community and will include free food, kids' activities, a free concert by the band Taylor Made, and door prizes throughout the day. The gate opens at noon and a brief celebratory ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Confirmed dignitaries include Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio.
  • The Contentment Complex on U.S. 60 in Ansted will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, Wednesday through Saturday through August. The Complex is located 1 mile east of Hawks Nest Lodge. The complex features a one-room schoolhouse, a heritage museum and "Contentment," the home of Col. George Imboden, Ansted's first mayor. The home is decorated to represent a residence of the late 1870s through early 1920s. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Contentment is one of three Civil War Trail sites in Ansted. The other two are Westlake Cemetery, the burial site of Stonewall Jackson's mother, Julia Jackson Woodsen; and the Tyree Tavern, now a private residence.
