Bulletin Board: July 18, 2012

Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. July 18 in the Coonskin Park clubhouse.

Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to "Bad to the Bone Karaoke Night" at 7 p.m. July 21 at 804 Myrtle Road. Everyone is welcome to share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and delicious homemade treats will be available at a small cost. General admission is $2.

Senior Corps Programs of United Way has canceled its yard sale scheduled for July 21. The event has been rescheduled for Oct. 6.

Summer baton twirling camp will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 21 in the gymnasium at St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Albans. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $45. Featured instructors are West Virginia University feature twirler Whitney Godwin; Paige Carney Salgado, former University of South Carolina feature twirler and Miss College Majorette of America; and Rhonda Mendenhall, former World Trio champion and Miss Majorette of West Virginia. Twirlers at all levels (novice, beginner, intermediate and advanced) are welcome to attend. The clinic will focus on one-, two- and three-baton tricks; field and novelty tricks; rolls; and dance and baton combinations. The day will conclude with a performance by Godwin.

Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike July 22 at the Mountwood Park Mansion. Carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets at 12:30 p.m. Regroup at the marina. The hike is about five miles on a nature trail, a history trail and a bike trail.
