FUTURE EVENTS

Metro Opera's encore of "Manon," in high definition, will be shown from 6:30 to 9:35 p.m. Wednesday at Cinemark in the Huntington Mall. The story is about thirst for glamorous gowns and wealth with an inevitable downfall of lost happiness. Tickets are $22 for adults; $20 for seniors; and $15 for children. FamilyCare HealthCenter will offer monthly Diabetes Class. A class will be held from 1 to 4 pm. Thursday in Teays Valley. To register for this class, call 304-421-3690. A class also will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Patrick Street. Call 304-720-4851, ext. 8131. Certified Diabetes Educator and Dietitian, Grace Gibson, teaches about carb counting, medications, food labels, meal planning, and complication prevention in a fun and informative atmosphere. Attendance is free. Giveaways and refreshments are provided. Registration requested.

The Office of Economic Opportunity will conduct a public hearing on the 2012 U.S. DOE Weatherization State Plan at 11 a.m. Thursday at its office, 700 Washington St. E., second floor conference room, Geary Plaza. The purpose is to provide an opportunity to comment on the plan. The plan can be found on OEO's website, www.goeo.wv.gov or by writing: OEO-Weatherization, 700 Washington St. E., Charleston, WV 25301. Limited copies will be available at the hearing site. Comments must be received in writing by Monday at the address above.

Habitat for Humanity will offer a Composting Class from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in Habitat for Humanity's Homeowner Education and Community Center, 815 Court St. Learn about composting, from composter construction to proper use of a composter. West Virginia Alpha Phi State Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will have its State Convention Friday through Sunday at Charleston Embassy Suites. The convention will be hosted by the Alpha Chapter of Huntington. Guest speaker will be Corlea Plowman, International Officer, Executive Director. Sandra Cookey Gunther, WV President of Delta Kappa Gamma, will preside over the meeting. Registration is Friday. General session, luncheon, Founders Dinner and training of new officers will be held on Saturday. The closing Ceremony of Remembrance will be held on Sunday. George Washington High School Band will host a rummage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the school. Items are needed for the sale. Donated items can be dropped off between 3:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday. If help is needed getting larger items to the school or for information, contact Tammy at 304-545-2811.
